I have a Motorola M, Android Version 4.1.1 Kernel Version 3.0.31-g2a89152 Build Number 9.8.1Q_27-2
When trying to add a guage the PID dropdown will not stay open to select the PID to use. I am connected to Bluetooth and ECU.
The vehicle is a 2008 Ford F150 XLT 4.6 l
Let me know if I can provide you with any more info.

Hello,
That is strange. I cannot duplicate the problem. Have you tried it in disconnected mode by selecting Import Pids (Offline)? See if you can add gauges. What App Version are you using. Did this problem occur in the older versions?

I was going to try that this morning, but I could not find where to import the pids. I tried for about 10 min, but I had to get into work. I can try this at lunch.
I was able to create gauges in the version two, I think, prior to this. I did find, this morning by accident, that if I change the orientation of my phone, the PID drop down did stay open if I used my car's vehicle make. I did not try it as the Generic OBD II setting. If I flipped back to the original orientation, portrait, it was still working.
Hopefully this helps.
Tried the import pids at lunch. It was the same result as above.

Disable animation view under preference and give it a try.

I got the latest version 3.64.74 and disabled the animation like you requested. I get the same result. However, the frequency is less. I can now pick a PID and create a gauge. But if I select the dropdown, not select anything and close the dropdown by pressing the dropdown again, I can no longer have the dropdown open and stay open.
