hi guys,
i own a 01 maxima..
i bought the elm327 off ebay a while back, and the car gauge app from the android market and got them to work.
i'm able to play with rpm, advance timing and so on.. there is something wrong though (i think)..
when doing the idle relearn from within the app, i can't do it with the engine running, in which case the app says it failed. on the other hand, if i turn off the car, and put the ignition switch into "on" with all the dashboard lights on, the operation is reported by the app to be successful.
now.. my mechanic who happens to have the Consult device performed the idle relearn for my car with the engine "running". and showed me how the Consult would not perform the idle relearn when the car was not running!!
could anyone shed some light on this please..
note: i know the car should be warmed up and the engine temperature should be within tuning range.

As long it says successful, then the command was accepted. The Repair Manual will be more specific and accurate whether it should be running or not.

Well, for me, I have Altima 2005 - 2.5s. After changing all 4 ignition coils for the error code p0302 for cylinder 2 misfire and cleaning the throttle body, I still had the p0507 code for rpm higher than expected at idle. Manual idle rpm relearning never succeeded for me. Despite the Check Engine Light was indicating it was accepted (when following the procedure while engine is turned off, the CEL will blink).
Anyways, to cut long story short, the RPM was revving between 1500-2000 on Parking position, and 900 on Drive while breaks pushed. I did the Air Volume relearn while the engine is RUNNING. The engine stalled for a split second and the RPM went down from 2000 RPM to 500 RPM (It was kind of shocking, as if the car was slightly hit by another car), then after a few seconds it went up to 750 RPM and steady on Park position. The funny thing is, although the Air Volume Learning seems successful, the app says it FAILED.
I cleared Fault Codes, drove the car, turned on / off multiple times and no problems. Problem fixed. Thanks for the great app, it saved me from buying expensive MAF sensor. Despite the looks of the "Car Gauge Pro" app is inferior to Torque's graphical interface, it is much better in my opinion.
